How Friendships Shape Social Mobility; New Evidence from Large Scale Data
Klara Gurzo, Stockholm University

Klara Gurzo is a postdoctoral researcher in public health sciences at Stockholm University. Trained first as an economist, she studies how social policies and environments shape health and economic security, particularly for disadvantaged groups. Her current work follows people after compulsory care for substance use, and examines how parents’ care for sick children affects their employment and health. Her doctoral research showed how income and social mobility relate to health, including how childhood friendships with privileged peers bolster adult income mobility. Before her PhD, she evaluated nutrition programmes for low-income families in the United States. Across these projects, she combines quasi-experimental designs, longitudinal register analysis and text-based prediction methods.

Event is co-sponsored with the UC Davis Institute for Global Nutrition.
