Open Rank Faculty Position in Medicine, Medical Sciences, and Public Health

As part of a campus-wide initiative to hire leading research faculty with a strong commitment to teaching, research and service that will promote the success of underrepresented minority students (African-American, Latino (a)/Chicano (a)/Hispanic, and Native American), faculty, patients, and community, and address the needs of our increasingly diverse state, UC Davis announces an open-rank (depending on area) faculty position in the School of Medicine. Applications are encouraged from candidates with a strong disciplinary background in medicine, medical sciences, or public health that will fit within one of the School’s following departments: https://health.ucdavis.edu/medschool/departments/index.html.

In addition to a strong record of research and teaching excellence, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the barriers preventing full participation of underrepresented minorities in higher education. The successful candidate also will have an accomplished track record (calibrated to career stage) of teaching, research or service activities addressing the needs of underrepresented minorities, and a clearly articulated vision of how their work at UC Davis will continue to contribute to the University’s mission of serving the needs of our diverse state and student population. Applicants’ track record of engagement and activity related to diversity, equal opportunity, and inclusion as well as their plans for future engagement will be a significant part of the overall evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications for a faculty appointment.

Appointees to the Ladder Rank series are required to conduct independent research indicated by high impact dissemination and publication. Ladder Rank faculty are expected to garner external funding to support their research, engage in teaching on a regular and substantial basis, and participate in University and public service. The ideal candidate will oversee a biomedical research program that may include but is not limited to the following disciplinary areas: drug discovery, bioinformatics, molecular biology, cancer biology and clinical oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, translational research, stem cell research, microbiology, cell biology, public health, population health, modeling and simulation, physiology, biophysics, and other health-related and/or interdisciplinary research enabling a wide range of possible collaborations and high-level research training for students with diverse backgrounds. Participation in department, school, and university service is an expectation under our faculty shared governance model, as applicable. The selected candidate may be required to engage in direct inpatient and outpatient care, as applicable and based on medical discipline/sub-specialty.

We encourage applications from candidates with a strong disciplinary background in any current or emerging area that will fit within one of the departments in the School of Medicine. Appointment will be as a fiscal year (11-month) tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
